PBSC receives federal grants to continue Upward Bound program and expand to the Glades

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel announced that $3 million in grant funding has been awarded to Palm Beach State College by the U.S. Department of Education to expand the Upward Bound TRIO college readiness program.

A portion of the funding will enable PBSC to launch an Upward Bound TRIO program in the Glades to serve Pahokee and Glades Central high schools. Former PBSC student wins Florida Campus Compact award

Carl Amritt, a former Palm Beach State College student, has won a statewide award for his work advocating for the restoration of voting rights for the more than 1.5 million Floridians with a past felony conviction.
He will be presented the Florida Campus Compact Student Excellence in Service Award at the organization’s Awards Gala in Tampa Nov. 17 where students, faculty,  institutes of higher education and legislators will be honored. Ribbon cutting April 27 for new Veterans Resource Center

Palm Beach State College is holding a ribbon cutting April 27 for a new center on the Palm Beach Gardens campus that gives student veterans their own place to connect, unwind and get information on college and community resources.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. in the Veterans Resource Center on the second floor of the campus library (room 216). In attendance will be U.S. Rep. Palm Beach State student to attend State of the Union address

Earlier this month, Palm Beach State College student Charlene Rupert received an unexpected phone call that left her filled with excitement. On the other end was U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-West Palm Beach, who asked Rupert to accompany her to President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union address in Washington D.C. today.
“When I received the invitation, I honestly didn’t know what to say,” said Rupert. “It was such an honor. For years, I have admired Lois because she is always trying to support immigrants like me find a better way of life here.”
