The Palm Beach State College Foundation STEAM luncheon with world-renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has sold out to 700 individuals.
The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts’ Cohen Pavilion in West Palm Beach. Tyson will explore everyday opportunities to engage in science with his topic of “This Just In: Latest Discoveries in the Universe.”

The Palm Beach State College Foundation received a donation of $10,000 on July 24 from the Wells Fargo Bank Foundation to support the Math & Science Institute on the College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus.
This is the second year the Wells Fargo Foundation has contributed to the MSI. It has also supported student scholarships in the past, donating $125,000 since 2006.

The Palm Beach State College Foundation will host Dr. Randall Smith from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at Harvard University in a presentation titled “The Science Behind Science Fiction” at 5:30 p.m. May 22 at the Duncan Theatre on the Lake Worth campus. Tickets are $35 per person. PBSC faculty and staff can attend for $25 and students are admitted free.

Thirty golf foursomes gathered on May 9 at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens for The Palm Beach State College Foundation’s annual Golf Classic.
The tournament, the Foundation’s premier fundraising event, raised $101,000 to benefit the Foundation’s STEAM initiative to impact the projected shortage of local, skilled professionals in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) fields.

Palm Beach State College marketing initiatives have received six national awards in recent competitions that drew thousands of entries from all 50 states and several nations.

Award-winning actor John Lithgow continued the STEAM dialog on Jan. 30 as he spoke to a crowd of nearly 500 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts during the Palm Beach State College Foundation’s STEAM luncheon.
During his speech, Lithgow acknowledged that test prep along with science, technology, engineering and math subjects have come to dominate conversations and the educational diet of young people. However, without incorporating the arts, he says, a student’s life is “tragically incomplete.”
