More than 90 Palm Beach State College faculty members have received a nationally recognized teaching credential co-endorsed by the Association of College and University Educators and the American Council on Education.

PBSC receives $1 million for artificial intelligence and virtual reality training

Palm Beach State College will receive $1 million in federal funding to train faculty and students in artificial intelligence and to buy high-tech equipment for them to get ahead on rapidly growing technology that will transform industries.

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel announced the funding Jan. 17 at the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence on the Lake Worth campus. Palm Beach State College recently celebrated the opening of the permanent home for its Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at the Lake Worth campus that will serve as a hub for innovation, further elevate classroom instruction for students and position the College as a leader in educator development and professional learning.

Palm Beach State College earns reaccreditation

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has reaffirmed Palm Beach State College’s accreditation for an additional 10 years.
The SACSCOC Board of Trustees voted to approve the reaffirmation at its recent meeting. The decision followed an extensive process that included a virtual site visit in October 2021 by a SACSCOC on-site committee of higher education experts and leaders. PBSC receives $3 million Hispanic Serving Institution grant

Palm Beach State College has received a $3 million federal grant to improve retention and completion rates of Hispanic and low-income students.
The Title V grant, awarded under the U.S. Department of Education’s Developing Hispanic- Serving Institutions Program, will provide $600,000 a year over five years for the College’s Pathways to Success initiative.
It includes four components:

creation of a robust Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to improve the capacity of faculty to address the needs of Hispanic and low-income students
creation of an ecosystem of data analytics to allow the College’s Institutional Research and Effectiveness office to inform faculty and college actions and resource allocation

Accrediting body gives PBSC thumbs up on interim report

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has fully accepted Palm Beach State College’s Fifth-Year Interim Report, signaling that the institution continues to provide high-quality and effective programs, services and instruction.
The Committee on Fifth-Year Interim Reports reviewed PBSC’s compliance with 17 select accreditation standards, as well as the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Impact Report, and concluded that the College does not need to submit additional reports.

PBSC gets back on track after Hurricane Irma

Palm Beach State College reopened for classes and business Sept. 18 with a plan for students to make up the nine instructional days lost because of Hurricane Irma.
College leaders have cancelled the faculty and staff Development Day scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25. That day will become a makeup day for students taking Thursday or Tuesday/Thursday classes.  Final Exam Week, during which time students only take their final exams, will now become an instructional week. PBSC expecting another enrollment hike

Palm Beach State College is expecting another enrollment hike for the 2017-2018 academic year, and College leaders say they are prepared for the growth.
The full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment was up 2.8 percent for 2016-2017 compared to the previous year. That means that PBSC students, the majority of whom are part time, took far more classes. The student headcount also rose slightly to 49,303 students in 2016-2017, up from 47,893 in 2015-2016.

Haney earns AAWCC 40 Under 40 Award for local work
