PBSC Invitational scores big with first responders

The inaugural Palm Beach State College Invitational, held May 1-6 at the College’s Lake Worth campus, saw over 250 professional firefighters, paramedics and police officers, from Tallahassee to Miami, as well as Canada, compete to see who could most skillfully and quickly solve complex rescue challenges.
The event featured four types of public safety challenges: vehicle extrication, rapid intervention rescue, an EMS challenge, and motorcycle riding. Expanded job fair to bring 40-plus public safety employers from across the state

Over 40 first responder employers, from Doral to Tallahassee, will recruit at the Public Safety Job Fair, Friday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Palm Beach State College’s Elisabeth W. Erling Gymnasium on the Lake Worth campus, 4200 Congress Ave.

911 dispatch program celebrates 10 years and new simulation lab

Every year more than one million 911 calls are answered by public safety telecommunicators in Palm Beach County, and Palm Beach State College has been training these “heroes behind the headsets” for a decade.
The county’s leader in public safety education, Palm Beach State established the Public Safety Telecommunications Career Certificate Program in 2012 in response to Florida becoming one of the first states to require certification for 911 dispatchers. PBSC helps public safety students impacted by Covid-19

Palm Beach State College has developed a plan to help more than 200 public safety students whose training was halted by the coronavirus outbreak.
Without the hands-on skills training required to complete their programs, students in the Police and Fire academies and the Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician programs would remain in limbo, unable to graduate and take their state tests.

The United States Postal Service will recognize Palm Beach State College’s Public Safety programs during a special dedication ceremony Nov. 15 for its recently issued Forever stamp, “Honoring First Responders.” The College trains the most first responders in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach State hosts first EMS competition

Professional emergency medical services teams from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties competed today in Palm Beach State College’s first EMS Panther Challenge, held at the Public Safety Training Center on the Lake Worth campus. The teams’ knowledge and skills in advanced life support were put to the test in dynamic, realistic medical scenarios that involved human patient simulators (wireless, computerized mannequins) and people portraying patients.

Crime Scene students put to the test at FEMA training event

When a natural disaster hits, crime scene investigators play a critical role. They determine the cause and manner of death of disaster victims, identify bodies and human remains, and preserve physical evidence.
