PBSC to host 40 employers at career fair on Boca Raton campus

With the tight labor market, employers are struggling to find quality job candidates. As a result, 40 employers are expected to recruit at a career fair sponsored by Palm Beach State College on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Humanities & Technology Building, Room HT 103, on PBSC’s Boca Raton campus, 801 Palm Beach State College Drive.

Alphazyme awards Palm Beach State College $50K for biotechnology lab equipment

Palm Beach State College’s biotechnology students will gain access to the same laboratory equipment used in the industry thanks to a $50,000 donation from Alphazyme, an enzyme development and production company based in Jupiter. A subsidiary of Maravai LifeSciences, Alphazyme is a member of the College’s Biotechnology Business Partnership Council and employs graduates of PBSC’s Associate in Science degree and certificate programs in biotechnology.

Palm Beach State College will commemorate its 90th anniversary by honoring community heroes, including military veterans and alumni, at the inaugural Emerald Torch Awards Gala that will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Fire Academy Complex on PBSC’s Lake Worth campus, 4200 Congress Ave.

With the goal of developing a local talent pool for local employers, the City of Boynton Beach, Palm Beach State College, and CareerSource Palm Beach County are partnering to provide college credit certificate programs for City of Boynton Beach residents. PBSC commencement speaker and founder of multimillion-dollar Florida company awarded an honorary degree

Palm Beach State College surprised Alexiou Gibson, the keynote speaker at PBSC’s Spring 2023 Commencement, with an honorary Bachelor of Applied Science degree presented at the ceremony. Gibson, a PBSC alumnus who founded The Transformation Factory, a multimillion-dollar Palm Beach County-based business, said he was overcome with emotion by the “recognition of his achievements with an honorary degree.”

FPL’s $1 million gift to buy laptops for rapid credentialing students

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced today a $1 million donation to buy more than 1,600 laptops for students to use in rapid credentialing programs to obtain the skills they need to get back to work amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 
FPL’s donation comes on the heels of Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education launch of the Get There Florida initiative, in which they raised awareness of rapid credentialing programs.

PBSC receives $1.3 million from FDOE to enhance workforce education

Individuals looking to quickly upskill, or reskill, to become more marketable in an economy impacted by COVID-19 will find scholarships and accelerated training opportunities at Palm Beach State College through a $1.3 million grant from the Florida Department of Education.   
With this grant, Palm Beach State has partnered with FDOE in the statewide Get There Florida workforce education initiative, announced by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sept. 24. Palm Beach State College has earned national top 10 rankings from two prestigious military publishers for the third consecutive year. Military Times and VIQTORY have placed PBSC third and fourth respectively on their lists of the best higher education institutions for veterans, which in turn makes PBSC the highest-ranking Florida school in its category.
