PBSC Belle Glade campus partners again in countywide Back to School event

For the second time, Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus served as a partner in an annual event designed to help Palm Beach County K-12 students in need prepare for the new school year.
The Back to School PBC! drive-up event was held July 24 at six locations across the county where students received backpacks, school supplies and books, as well as dental kits and other personal hygiene items. Prophete to lead Cross-Cultural Equity Institute

Dr. Karline Prophete, who has 15 years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education and K-12, has been named interim director of Palm Beach State College’s new Cross-Cultural Equity Institute.
Prophete was picked from a pool of internal PBSC applicants to launch and establish the groundwork for the institute designed to improve retention and close the graduation gap for minority students at the College. She begins her new role April 16.

Rutherford to join PBSC as new VP of Advancement

David Rutherford, a seasoned higher education fundraising chief who also worked for more than 20 years in nonprofit leadership, will join Palm Beach State College as the new Vice President of Advancement.
President Ava L. Parker, J.D., selected Rutherford for the newly created position on her executive leadership team following a nationwide search. Rutherford starts Jan. 16 and will have administrative oversight of the Grants office, College Relations and Marketing and the PBSC Foundation.

Parker announces couple’s $1 million gift at her investiture

During the investiture ceremony Thursday officially installing her as Palm Beach State College’s fifth president, Ava L. Parker, J.D., announced a $1 million gift to the College from a Palm Beach Gardens couple who have a passion for education.

PBSC wins regional NCMPR awards for communications

Palm Beach State College has won three Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations District II for promotional and marketing pieces designed by members of the College Relations and Marketing graphic design team.
The annual awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at community and technical colleges in 11 Southeastern states, the Bahamas and Bermuda.

Florida TEAm grant to accelerate pipeline for computer science, engineering students

The Florida Board of Governors has awarded Florida Atlantic University, Broward College and Palm Beach State College a $3.5-million state grant to create an accelerated pipeline for students in computer science and computer engineering.
The FAU/BC/PBSC partnership was developed in response to the  Board of Governors’ Targeted Educational Attainment (TEAm) grant program, part of an ambitious effort to align university and college degrees with the state’s future workforce needs.
