Grand opening held for Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler Equity Institute official site

Palm Beach State College held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 4  for the official home of its Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler Equity Institute that aims to improve retention and close the graduation gap for minority students.

PBSC receives $200,000 grant from Bank of America

To drive a classroom-to-career pipeline of highly trained individuals, Palm Beach State College was awarded a Bank of America grant of $100,000 annually for two years, totaling $200,000. The funds will increase completion and job placement rates of underserved students by providing career placement, guidance, academic support and sustainable opportunities as part of the Transforming Communities workforce initiative at the Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler Cross-Cultural Equity Institute.

Prophete to lead Cross-Cultural Equity Institute

Dr. Karline Prophete, who has 15 years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education and K-12, has been named interim director of Palm Beach State College’s new Cross-Cultural Equity Institute.
Prophete was picked from a pool of internal PBSC applicants to launch and establish the groundwork for the institute designed to improve retention and close the graduation gap for minority students at the College. She begins her new role April 16.

PBSC to create Cross-Cultural Equity Institute

Palm Beach State College is planning to establish a Cross-Cultural Equity Institute this year to improve retention and help close the graduation gap for minority students.
The institute will be named after Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler, a local philanthropist and former longtime educator and elected official, whose generous gift to the College is making it possible.
