Follett Higher Education Group, Palm Beach State College’s longtime business partner, is giving $125,000 over five years for a new scholarship to help students with tuition and other educational expenses.
The first round of Follett Higher Education Group scholarships will target students who work in the hospitality and service industry, many of whom have been displaced because of the pandemic and are in school retooling their skills. James Patterson, the world’s bestselling author, is creating a scholarship that will cover the full cost of tuition for Palm Beach State College students.
The Patterson Family Foundation has established scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students at 15 colleges and universities across the United States, but this will be the first to benefit community college students. David Rutherford, a seasoned higher education fundraising chief who also worked for more than 20 years in nonprofit leadership, will join Palm Beach State College as the new Vice President of Advancement.
President Ava L. Parker, J.D., selected Rutherford for the newly created position on her executive leadership team following a nationwide search. Rutherford starts Jan. 16 and will have administrative oversight of the Grants office, College Relations and Marketing and the PBSC Foundation.
