Barbering program puts PBSC a cut and shave above

A new Barbering program is about to get underway on Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus, and the timing couldn’t be better. With many licensed barbers nearing retirement age, and millennial males clamoring for the latest hair and beard styles, the demand for new barbers is growing fast.

Belle Glade cosmetology lab gets new look

The Belle Glade cosmetology program reopened this fall with a new design and new faculty.
The 2,186-square-foot lab underwent almost $36,000 in renovations while the program took a yearlong hiatus to better meet student needs.  A cohort of 10 students began the program earlier this month.

Two career programs, Welding and Cosmetology, at Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus are rolling out new options to better meet student needs.

Rhonda L. Griffis, an instructor for Palm Beach State College’s Cosmetology program, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the state Board of Cosmetology.
A licensed cosmetologist, former salon executive and educator, Griffis will bring a South Florida perspective to the board, which is responsible for licensing and regulating the cosmetology profession in the state. Cosmetology students help cancer-battling teens get ready for special prom

Palm Beach State Cosmetology students volunteered their talents to help teen girls get ready for A Prom to Remember, a prom for teens battling cancer held May 15 at The Ritz-Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale. Nearly 200 teens from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties attended.
