Mercer to be honored for advancing STEM education

Since her arrival at Palm Beach State College in 2009, Dr. Becky Mercer has been a staunch advocate of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
She not only enthusiastically encourages students to consider STEM careers, she develops STEM programs for children to inspire the next generation of innovators and creators.

Grant puts biomedical research career in sight

Kendra Melos has an A.A. degree from Palm Beach State College and a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from Florida State University, yet her current career goal did not take shape until she entered PBSC’s Biotechnology College Credit Certificate program.
A Florida native, Melos had set her sights on earning a Ph.D., but life interceded for the mother of two, whose husband is a disabled veteran.

PBSC biotechnology graduate honored for excellence in field

Haya Ghannouma, a graduate of Palm Beach State College’s Biotechnology Associate in Science degree program, has received the 2016 Student of the Year Award from the Florida Association of Colleges & Employers.
Each year, one outstanding student from a two or four-year Florida higher education institution is chosen by a FloridaACE selection committee for the award. Ghannouma received $300 and a crystal award.

Life sciences competition winner credits ‘teachers believing in me’

Doors keep opening for Tevin Ali, a student in Palm Beach State College’s Biotechnology program.
The latest is his first-place victory in the oral presentation competition at the 2015 Life Sciences South Florida STEM Undergraduate Research Symposium.
