Palm Beach State College introduced a new drumline in January to raise school spirit.
“These groups are at the forefront of most colleges and universities, and we wanted to bring that same recognition, excitement and entertainment to Palm Beach State,” said director Eric Levy.
With the support of the Humanities Department and PBSC administration, the school invested more than $25,000 worth of equipment for the group whose repertoire of instruments includes snare, bass and tenor drums as well as cymbals.
The drumline performs at College sporting events and commencement ceremonies as well as community events and local schools. Current PBSC students from any campus may audition to join the group. Members of the drumline get paid for performances, and a scholarship is also available for those who maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. The College hopes to grow the group each year, and ultimately see them perform on a national level.
