PBSC Foundation golf tournament raises $101,000 at annual Golf Classic

Thirty golf foursomes gathered on May 9 at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens for The Palm Beach State College Foundation’s annual Golf Classic.
The tournament, the Foundation’s premier fundraising event, raised $101,000 to benefit the Foundation’s STEAM initiative to impact the projected shortage of local, skilled professionals in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) fields.

Forbes honored as the top coach in Palm Beach County

It was a historic 2013 for Palm Beach State College baseball. With the leadership of head coach Kyle Forbes, the team won its first FCSAA state title since 1984 and made its first ever appearance in the NJCAA JUCO World Series.
For these efforts, Forbes was named Coach of the Year by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. Forbes named Coach of the Year finalist

Kyle Forbes, who last year led the Panthers to their first appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball World Series, has been named one of three finalists for the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Coach of the Year.
He is up against John McCormack, head baseball coach at Florida Atlantic University, and Danny Randolph, women’s golf team coach at Lynn University. Third annual faculty/staff vs. student basketball game Feb. 20

Palm Beach State College’s Student Government Association on the Lake Worth campus will host its 3rd annual faculty/staff vs. student basketball game at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Elisabeth Erling Gymnasium. Those interested in participating may sign up in the Student Activities Center (BK 107).

Panthers expand social media outreach through basketball talk show

Palm Beach State College Athletics has reached out through social media to expand its coverage area. The first installment of “Panther Basketball Bites” featuring Head Men’s Basketball Coach Scott McMillin and Head Women’s basketball Coach Kris Ruffo is currently on YouTube.

Ashley Jones and Alana Arias sign NCAA Division I letters of intent

Two of the Panthers’ four sophomores in women’s basketball have already made commitments to play at the next level for their junior and senior seasons.
Ashley Jones, a sophomore forward, will continue her career at “THE U” (Miami University) and Alana Arias has committed to be a Ram next year attending Colorado State University. Both students signed full grants-in-aid at their respective institutions.

Kris Ruffo earns 300th overall career victory

Kris Ruffo, head coach of Palm Beach State College’s women’s basketball team, earned her 300th overall career win Jan. 11  when she led the panthers to victory against southern conference rival St. Petersburg 70-57. To date, she has achieved 106 wins as head coach at Palm Beach State.
The team is currently #4 in the Florida College System Activities Association rankings and #17 in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll.
