Palm Beach State awarded Florida Blue Foundation grant

Through the use of human simulation technology, health care students can practice clinical skills without putting real patients in jeopardy. The technology promotes safer, better patient care when it counts, and has been used by Palm Beach State College for more than 10 years.
Now the Florida Blue Foundation has awarded Palm Beach State a $55,000 grant to enhance the use of simulation technology in its health sciences programs. Quantum Foundation grant to expand PBSC Nursing program

Hundreds of would-be nurses are turned away each year from nursing schools around the state. The problem isn’t a lack of qualified applicants, but a lack of faculty and resources to support the additional students. This is a serious situation considering that Florida’s registered nurse (RN) shortage will exceed 50,000 by 2025, according to the Florida Center for Nursing.

Dental Health students give smiles to 300 kids

Busloads of Head Start preschoolers came to the Dental Hygiene Care Center on the Lake Worth campus to get their teeth checked and cleaned on Feb. 7, the annual Give Kids a Smile Day. 
For the eighth year, Palm Beach State’s Dental Health Services department hosted the event as part of the American Dental Association’s national day, started in 2003. Arts “indispensable” to education says Lithgow

Award-winning actor John Lithgow continued the STEAM dialog on Jan. 30 as he spoke to a crowd of nearly 500 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts during the Palm Beach State College Foundation’s STEAM luncheon.
During his speech, Lithgow acknowledged that test prep along with science, technology, engineering and math subjects have come to dominate conversations and the educational diet of young people. However, without incorporating the arts, he says, a student’s life is “tragically incomplete.”

Palm Beach State offers high-tech bachelor’s degree for $10,000

Joining the statewide mission to make college as affordable as possible, Palm Beach State College has lowered the cost of its Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Information Management to $10,000 for qualified students. The tuition reduction answers Gov. Rick Scott’s “$10,000 Degree Challenge” to provide affordable, quality bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields.
