Palm Beach State College radiography students Alexia Arnold and Wilmer Flores were selected to represent the state of Florida as participants in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Student to Leadership Development Program.

Arnold and Flores are two of 68 students chosen for the 2024 program out of 150 students who applied nationwide, including five from the state of Florida. They are the third and fourth students to be selected for this program from PBSC.

The program is three years and offers students a chance to attend ASRT educational sessions and network with medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

“I was pleasantly surprised when I received notification that two of my students were selected for the program and had chosen me as their professional mentor,” said professor Michael Latimer. “They have the opportunity to become the next generation of leaders within our profession.”

Arnold and Wilmer are both second year students and members of the Florida Society of Radiologic Technologists. Each had to submit an essay to be considered for the program.

“My professors collectively played a crucial role in guiding me toward this program, recognizing its potential to connect me with valuable mentors and collaborators,” Wilmer said. “I am grateful for their support and mentorship. I am eager to seize this opportunity to expand my network, foster meaningful connections, and glean wisdom from those who share my dedication to advancing in this field.”

Arnold, a first-generation college student, says from the moment she entered PBSC’s radiology program, her life was changed.

“From the professors I have met to the technicians I have learned with at the hospital, everyone in this field has taught me so many new things and new ways to think,” Arnold wrote in her essay. “I am looking to become a part of a network of likeminded individuals and maybe one day help students just like myself.”
