PBSC welcomes new District Board of Trustee members

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Daniel Epstein, J.D., Ph.D., and Jon Harrison to Palm Beach State College’s District Board of Trustees.

Epstein, an assistant professor of law at St. Thomas University, a private Catholic institution in Miami Gardens and Harrison, the chief government officer of Vaxxinity, a biotech company headquartered in Dallas that recently reported a successful first-phase trial for a Parkinson’s disease vaccine will each serve a three-year term.

“I would like to welcome Dan and Jon to our Board of Trustees, and I look forward to working with them in advancing PBSC’s mission of transforming students’ lives,” said PBSC President Ava L. Parker, J.D.

The new members replace Carolyn L. Williams, a retired senior staff advisor for the South Florida Water Management District and Palm Beach County supervisor of elections Wendy Sartory Link. Both Williams and Link served as DBOT chairs and joined the board in 1999 and 2007, respectively.

“Carolyn and Wendy for have been beacons of inspiration not only at the college where their outstanding leadership has played a crucial role in overseeing our policies, budget and strategic direction, but also in their professional lives,” said Parker. “We appreciate all they have done for the college and their contributions will be recognized for many years to come.”

Epstein and Harrison attended their first board meeting on Friday, March 22, 2024. Both bring a wealth of experience to the board. An expert in administrative law and regulatory policy, Epstein previously worked in venture capital, the White House and Congress. He also founded a public interest law firm representing entrepreneurs in bet-the-company cases against regulators. Epstein earned his bachelor’s degree in political philosophy from Kenyon College, his J.D. from Emory University, and his doctorate in political economy from George Washington University.

Prior to joining Vaxxinity, Harrison served as senior advisor for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs at the Department of State. Harrison is a former member of several US delegations to the UN General Assembly. As an entrepreneur, he also helped build and grow several companies, including a NASA JPL spin-out manufacturing renewable energy technologies to power underwater autonomous systems, and a startup developing software for the editing, sharing, visualization and 3D printing of topographical data.  and is currently a member of the board of directors of Albers Aerospace, Diamond Age and a venture partner and advisor at IronGate Capital Advisors. Harrison earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southampton.
