Palm Beach State College alumnus Renaud Felix, Jr., of Greenacres, was recognized on Monday, Feb. 5, by the City of Greenacres Mayor Joel Flores and council members with a special certificate recognizing his outstanding academic achievement and dedication for earning a college degree before graduating high school.

Felix was awarded an Associate in Arts degree from PBSC last December during a ceremony at the BallPark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach.

During the city council meeting, Felix’s parents and sister and members of the PBSC community, including Lake Worth campus Provost Barbara Cipriano, Provost and Dean of Student Services on the Boca Raton campus Dr. Van Williams, Interim Dean of Student Development and Success Dr. Karline Prophete and Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer Angela Harrington, were on hand to show their support.

“RJ” as he is known hopes to secure a medical internship this summer and earn a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering on his way to becoming a vascular surgeon.

Felix applied and was accepted in Palm Beach State College’s dual enrollment program as a sophomore at Suncoast High School.

The Dual Enrollment program at Palm Beach State College allows eligible students to take classes that meet their high school graduation and Associate in Arts transfer degree requirements. Currently, there are about 3,000 students enrolled from 54 public, charter and private schools around Palm Beach County. On average, the program graduates about 65 students each academic year with their A.A. before graduating high school.
