Update on lockdown on Lake Worth campus

There was an emergency lockdown at the Lake Worth campus that occurred just before 1 p.m. today and ended without incident at 2:14 p.m. We are grateful for the safety of our students, faculty, and staff and the campus community that followed the required safety protocols throughout the ordeal.

The Village of Palm Springs Police Department located a vehicle on Palm Beach State College’s Lake Worth Campus that was reported to have been involved in a shooting within their jurisdiction, which is near our Lake Worth campus.

Based on information obtained from the license plate on the vehicle, the vehicle was registered to a PBSC student. We were instructed to place the campus on lockdown until the suspect could be located. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Officers and tactical units responded to the scene and the suspect was located in one of the classrooms in the Social Sciences building on the Lake Worth campus and taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was interviewed and released by law enforcement. The Palm Springs Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting.

The Student Counselling Center is on call to assist students and can be reached at 561-868-3980 or by emailing studentcounselingcenter@palmbeachstate.edu.

Any employees in need of counseling can contact the Lifeworks Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at www.lifeworks.com, log in, PBSC, password PBSC or call 1 (800) 433-7916, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We commend the students, faculty and staff for their patience, remaining in place, and following all safety protocols.
