PBSC partners with county to offer Community Emergency Response Team training
Palm Beach County residents interested in getting basic training in emergency and disaster preparedness can do so for free.
Palm Beach State College’s Corporate and Continuing Education division is partnering with the county’s Department of Public Safety Division of Emergency Management to offer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on the Lake Worth, Boca Raton and Loxahatchee Groves campuses. The 24-hour training program will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 2-25 for Lake Worth, March 2-April 1 for Boca Raton and April 6-29 for Loxahatchee Groves.
The CERT program is a nationally supported, locally implemented initiative that teaches people how to better prepare themselves for hazards that may affect their communities. Individuals are trained in disaster response skills such as team organization, disaster medical operations, fire safety, and light search and rescue. Local CERT programs train and organize teams of volunteers to assist their families, neighbors, co-workers and other community members during emergencies when professional responders may not be immediately available to provide assistance.
The training is open to the public, but participants must register at palmbeachstate.edu/cce.
Great training program for our community and partnership with PBSC. As an essential staff member prevoiusly in CA…. home of earthquakes and fires…. we were required to be CERT certified for our job. There are roles for all people of all abilities who go through such training. KUDOS!
