More than 20 police departments and other criminal justice organizations from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando will recruit at the third annual Criminal Justice Job Fair, Friday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Palm Beach State College’s Public Safety Conference Center on the Lake Worth campus.

Free and open to the public, the fair is designed for those seeking positions in law enforcement, corrections and 911 dispatch. Attendees will be able to apply for current job openings ranging from officer to civilian positions. Both certified and noncertified individuals and students are welcome.

The job fair marks the third year that PBSC has partnered with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) to bring hiring agencies from across the state to the Lake Worth campus. The Palm Beach County Association of Chiefs of Police also is a co-sponsor for the second year in a row.

“As the need for public safety professionals continues to grow, our goal is to provide our students and graduates, as well as local job seekers, with opportunities to meet a wide variety of law enforcement, corrections and telecommunication agencies,” said Rick Rocco, director of PBSC’s Criminal Justice programs. “Speaking directly to agency personnel is a more personal approach than scrolling through job postings on a website. Public safety begins and ends with the people who staff the organizations, and even as technology increases our capabilities, it is still the person behind the badge that makes the difference.”

The exhibiting organizations include the sheriff’s offices for Broward, Martin, Orange and Palm Beach counties, the police departments for Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Lakeland, Lantana, Lauderhill, Lighthouse Point, Margate, Orlando, Palm Beach, Palm Springs, Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach (including 911 dispatch), as well as the FBI, Florida Highway Patrol, Okeechobee Correctional Institution, Drug Enforcement Administration (West Palm Beach) and the School Police for the School District of Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach State College also will exhibit as the leading educator of public safety professionals in Palm Beach County. Attendees will be able to gather information on the College’s various degree and certificate programs in criminal justice, fire science, emergency medical services (including EMT and paramedic) and various advanced, cross-over and career programs, such as Public Safety Telecommunications, which trains 911 dispatchers.
