PBSC to hold first GradFest celebration

Palm Beach State College will recognize its soon-to-be fall graduates not only at commencement, but also at GradFest, a new initiative launching this semester.

The event is designed to give graduates an opportunity to celebrate their collegiate accomplishments and learn more about PBSC’s Alumni Network, bachelor’s programs and more.  It takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Public Safety Training Center on the Lake Worth campus.

“Graduation is a significant milestone for our students, and we wanted to hold a special event to celebrate their hard work,” said Karen Cover, Career Center manager who is leading the event. “We encourage all graduates to attend and hope it gets them that much more excited about their futures.”

During the event, students can order a frame for their diploma, decorate their graduation cap and learn about professional development and job opportunities. They can also take a selfie with Palmer, the College’s Panther mascot, get a free LinkedIn headshot, and enjoy food and live music.

There will be more than 15 tables present with representatives from departments college-wide including the Career Center, Alumni Network, Financial Aid, Corporate and Continuing Education and the Bookstore to inform students about PBSC’s services and programs. Staff will also be available to answer questions about commencement.

According to Cover, the College will hold GradFest every Fall and Spring with plans to expand the celebration to each campus. Students who plan to graduate or who graduated in the summer can RSVP to attend. Current students must present their PBSC ID card.
