President Parker sends memo to students about DACA
The following memo was emailed to Palm Beach State College students.
Sept. 6, 2017
Dear Palm Beach State College Panthers,
As you may know, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that the administration is rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The deadlines established in the decision are provided below:
- Effective Sept. 5, new applications for the DACA program will not be considered.
- Individuals who currently have DACA status will be allowed to maintain their status through the deferred action period.
- DACA recipients whose status expires before March 5, 2018, have until October 5, 2017, to reapply.
We know that this decision is difficult for DACA students at Palm Beach State College who are working to fulfill education and career goals. Please know that we are here to help any affected students get answers. Many common questions are covered on the Department of Homeland Security Frequently Asked Questions webpage. If you are an affected student and would like to speak with someone directly at the College regarding this matter, please call our Global Education Center at 561-868-3973.
We will monitor this issue and forward updates as the federal government continues to address the administration’s decision. Please know that we are advocating on behalf of our DACA students with our congressional delegation.
Panther Proud.
Panther Strong.
Ava L. Parker, J.D.
President
