Six PBSC students named to All-Florida Academic Team
Six Palm Beach State College students have been named to the 2017 All-Florida Academic Team for their academic achievement, leadership and service to the community. They will be recognized at an awards ceremony and receive a medallion on April 7 in Tallahassee.
Crystal Edwards of Delray Beach, Christy Laflamme of Palm Beach Gardens, Rina Raad of Boca Raton, Rafael Bernardo Velazquez of West Palm Beach, Rosalyn Velez of Lake Worth and Joshua Ciorciari of Hicksville, N.Y. were among 127 students from the Florida College System named to the team. They are all members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
In addition, Edwards, Laflamme, Raad, Velez and Ciorciari are members of the Dr. Floyd F. Koch Honors College at Palm Beach State.
“I’m excited to congratulate this group of outstanding scholars who have excelled in their studies and earned a place on the 2017 All-Florida Academic Team,” said Division of Florida Colleges Chancellor Madeline Pumariega. “This is a prestigious honor, and I look forward to recognizing all of these students at the awards ceremony.”
Each year, an All-Florida Academic Team is named to recognize the most outstanding students in the Florida College System. The students are honored in April because it has been proclaimed by Gov. Rick Scott as Florida College System Month.
These students were nominated by their respective colleges to the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by USA Today and the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
Earning a spot on the All-Florida Academic Team affords students additional scholarship opportunities at Florida universities. Additionally, these students are considered for scholarships sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, ranging in value from $1,000 – $5,000, which students can use to continue their education anywhere in the nation.
The All-Florida Academic Team is sponsored by the Florida Lottery, Phi Theta Kappa Florida Region, RBC Wealth Management, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida and Capital City Trust Company.
So proud of our students and their accomplishments! I do not know them all, but I do know that Joshua Ciorciari is an outstanding student and I wish I had his dedication, imagination and curiosity when I was in college. Congratulations!!
Congrats to all of these students.
