PBSC team raises almost $1,000 for PBC children

Heroes 5KTwenty-five Palm Beach State College faculty, staff and administrators became heroes for Palm Beach County children this past weekend during the Heroes 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run in Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach.

This 14th annual event was held to raise funds for The Children’s Home Society of Florida, which provides a variety of programs that focus on child abuse, neglect, prevention and intervention, adoption and adoption support services.

The PBSC group raised almost $1,000 toward the Children’s Home Society’s goal of $100,000.

The following four PBSC employees placed near the top in their age categories: Dr. Irving Berkowitz, dean of academic affairs at the Lake Worth campus, and Mikhail Howell, media technology specialist at the Palm Beach Gardens campus, both came in second place. Raymond Coulter, locksmith at the Lake Worth campus, was fourth and Susan Caldwell, associate dean of academic affairs at the Lake Worth campus, received third.

The Children’s Home Society of Florida mentors and assists more than 21,000 troubled, runaway and homeless children in Palm Beach County annually.

April is Panthers on the Move Month at Palm Beach State. During the month, PBSC will participate in several events including the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run April 12 in Downtown West Palm Beach. There is also a Walk for the Health of It event at 2 p.m. April 26 on all campuses. This event, which celebrates National Walk at Lunch Day, offers employees the chance to walk a half a mile or a one mile loop around campus.
