SGA and drama club to co-host candidate’s forum Oct. 13
The Student Government Association and Drama Club at Palm Beach State College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus will co-host a candidate’s forum Oct. 13 for Florida House of Representatives District 85.
The event, featuring Republican candidate Rick Roth and Democratic candidate Robert Simeone, will take place at 2 p.m. in Meldon Lecture Hall (BB 111) at 3160 PGA Blvd.
The forum is free and open to current Palm Beach State students, faculty and staff. It will be moderated by PBSC Sophomore Kristen Kijanka, who was chosen for the role after auditioning last week.
Kijanka was among four students from the hosting organizations who auditioned for the gig. During the audition, she had to read aloud an introduction explaining the format of the event as well as several model questions.
“Kristen was able to make the best adjustments and deliver the material in a clear and concise way so that everyone understood what was about to take place,” said Adjunct Instructor Matthew Gitkin, who chose Kijanka for the position and who sponsors the drama club.
“I love performing so this opportunity is really exciting to me,” said Kijanka, who hopes to one day become a television news anchor.
Kijanka will ask Roth and Simeone questions that were developed by students from both the SGA and drama club at the Palm Beach Gardens campus.
