Veteran news anchor to speak to PBSC students
Felicia Rodriguez, co-anchor of WPBF 25 News, will visit Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus Oct. 12 during a luncheon to talk about her experience as a journalist covering South Florida.
The event, which celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center lobby. It is free and open to students, faculty and staff. It is also open to the first 50 in the community who RSVP.
“Felicia is an excellent role model for all our students,” said Dr. Maria Vallejo, vice president for growth and expansion and provost of the Belle Glade and Loxahatchee Groves campuses. “She has advanced within a male dominated industry and is still true to her heritage as a Latina. She is always ready to give back to the community. We are honored that she accepted our invitation to present for Hispanic Heritage Month on our Belle Glade campus.”
Rodriguez joined WPBF 25 News in 1998 and has spent nearly 20 years covering the stories and issues important to South Florida. In 2012, she was honored at the Hispanic Women of Distinction ceremony for her local contributions.
Before coming to West Palm Beach, Rodriguez lived and worked in Panama City Beach as a reporter and morning news anchor.
A native New Yorker, she graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in telecommunications. She then went on to earn a meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.
The luncheon is sponsored by Florida Crystals. To RSVP, call 561-993-1028 or email corteza@palmbeachstate.edu.
Felicia Rodriguez is very intelligent, too. I’ve competed against her in the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County’s Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee, and she can hold her own! The team from WPBF 25 TV is always quite good.
