Florida State Sen. Maria Sachs, Rep. Lori Berman and Palm Beach County Commissioner Priscilla Taylor will be the speakers at the 5th Annual Women Entrepreneurs Network Summit at Palm Beach State College in Boca Raton.

The event, coordinated by the campus’ Corporate and Continuing Education department, will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 29 in the Humanities and Technology Building, 801 Palm Beach State College Drive. Tickets are $25 each or $180 for a table of eight.

The summit is an annual event for the Women Entrepreneurs Network, a group that meets monthly to exchange ideas and get tips from experts. The theme of this year’s summit is “Women Political Leaders Supporting Women Entrepreneurs.”  Dr. Bernadette Russell, provost of the PBSC Boca Raton campus, will moderate the panel discussion.

Sachs, D-Delray Beach, has been a member of the Florida Legislature since 2006. After serving two terms in the Florida House, she was elected to the Senate. Because of redistricting, she has run successfully twice for the Senate seat. Sachs is an attorney and member of the Federal Bar, California Bar and Florida Bar Associations. As a prosecutor with Janet Reno, she specialized in protecting the rights of abused women and promoting the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. Working through The McDuffie Riots, the Marielito boatlift and the prosecution of Ted Bundy strengthened her conviction to speak for those who have no voice. After her service as an assistant state attorney, she began her own practice, where she continues today, defending the rights of victims.

Berman, D-Boynton Beach, was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010. She served as chair of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation in 2015 and chairwoman of the Women’s Legislative Caucus in the 2014 session. As chair of the Women’s Caucus, she worked closely with legislative leaders on both sides of the aisle to ensure bills important to the women in Florida were prioritized.

Taylor, former mayor of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, has served on the commission since 2009. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2004 and re-elected twice as the District 84 representative. She brought to the House 25 years of business experience in the insurance industry. Prior to being elected to the Florida House, Taylor was a twice-elected member of the Port of Palm Beach District Commission. During her tenure, she served as chairwoman in both 2001 and 2003.
