Fifty employers to recruit at Oct. 22 Job Fair on PBG campus

While more employers are hiring, they are still struggling to find quality candidates. On Thursday, Oct. 22, local job seekers will have the opportunity to impress 50 employers exhibiting at the Job Fair & University Transfer Day from 1 to 4 p.m. at the BioScience Technology Complex on Palm Beach State College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus, 3160 PGA Blvd. The event is free and open to the public.

“We’ve been hearing from a lot of local employers that they are having a hard time finding good people.” — Tracy Joinson

Job Fair Oct. 2015Private and public sector employers from a wide range of industries will be looking to fill current full- and part-time openings, ranging from entry level to managerial. Attendees will be able to meet hiring managers from organizations such as Delray Medical Center, Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, Fastenal Company, Hair Cuttery, Oxygen Development, PayMaster Payroll Services, Peace Corps, Pet Supermarket, MorseLife Health System, School District of Palm Beach County, St. Mary’s Medical Center, TRC Engineering, Tropical Shipping, Verizon Wireless and Wyndham Grand Jupiter at Harbourside Place.

“We’ve been hearing from a lot of local employers that they are having a hard time finding good people, so we are happy that Palm Beach State can provide a venue to connect with quality job seekers,” says Tracy Joinson, coordinator for the campus Career Center.

Joinson advises that job seekers dress professionally, bring a polished resume, and be ready to show recruiters that they have done some research on the company ahead of time. “Although things have turned around with the job market over the past couple of years, job seekers still need to keep in mind that they are competing with other people for positions. There’s no bigger turn-off to a recruiter than hearing, ‘So what does your company do?’” says Joinson.

University Transfer Day
In addition, several universities will offer information about transferring and advanced education options. Exhibiting schools include Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida International University, Florida State University, Johnson & Wales University, Lynn University, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, University of Central Florida and the University of Florida.

The fair’s website lists all employers and universities participating. The employer listing includes types of open positions and a link to each company’s website. Questions also may be directed to Gary Karl, fair organizer and career development advisor, at 561-207-5349 or email karlg@palmbeachstate.edu.
