PBSC annual golf tournament features contests, prizes and more May 1
The Palm Beach College Foundation calls all who love the game of golf to come out and play and help drive the STEAM initiative at the annual Golf Classic at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday, May 1.
The tournament, the Foundation’s premier corporate fundraising event, supports programs to help meet the growing need for local, skilled professionals in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
“I would encourage business leaders to get involved with Palm Beach State College,” said Andy Sakalian, services sales executive at Dell Computer Company in West Palm Beach. “Local talent is essential to creating success in the community and Palm Beach State has been a great provider of local talent for all types of businesses.”
The Classic will take place on the club’s Sunset Course and will be a best-ball format, featuring contests during tournament play, including hole-in-one competitions sponsored by Braman Motor Cars. The top hole-in-one prizes will be a new BMW i3 and an Audi A3 Cariolet. Prizes also will be awarded for the longest drive, straightest drive and closest to the pin. Sponsorship opportunities, including a golf foursome, begin at $2,000; individual golfers can register in advance to play in the tournament for $375.
The Sunset Course, designed by golf legends Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills, is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course, part of an award-winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.
The tournament’s shotgun start is at 1 p.m. and the awards reception begins at 6 p.m. or immediately after play. A “copter drop” contest will begin the on-course celebration. A raffle and online auction also will be held as part of the fundraising efforts. Prizes for the raffle include: a 65-inch Samsung Smart TV, a 14-carat gold diamond necklace and a Dell tablet. Tickets for the raffle are $25 each or five for $100. The raffle is open to the community, and participants need not be present to win. The online auction prizes include a Dell XPS 13 256GB laptop and a Breakers beach and golf getaway, among others.
Major sponsors of the Golf Classic are: Balfour Beatty Construction, Dell Computer Company, Fastrack MCI, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Pro Sound & Video, Palm Beach Broadcasting, PepsiCo, Lotspeich Co. of FL, Inc., McDonald’s of North Palm Beach County and TGI Office Automation.
Proceeds from the Golf Classic will benefit the Foundation’s STEAM initiative. Through the initiative, the Foundation seeks to fund 1,000 new student scholarships, build 100 new business partnerships within these industries, develop 50 academic program enhancements, provide 50 new internship opportunities and open doors for women and minorities in the STEAM professions.
