Panther baseball team heads to state tournament

The Palm Beach State College baseball team celebrated on their home field yesterday as they clinched their 38th win of the 2015 season and the Southern Conference Championship title in a nail-biter game against Eastern Florida State College.

With the 3-2 win, the Panthers are now ranked at #18 in the nation and #3 in the state of Florida. Next month, they head to Lakeland, Fla. to play in the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 tournament May 7-11 at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Head coach Kyles Forbes summed up the win on April 22 and the season overall stating, “We really played together during last night’s game. The pitching and defense were excellent and all of the coaching staff was extremely proud of the way we finished this season.”

The Panthers were in sole possession or co-possession of first place throughout the entire Southern Conference season of 72 days. They hope to continue that success at the state level.

“Our strategy going into next month’s game will be one pitch at a time,” said Forbes. “The teams that make it to the state level are very talented, and if you don’t go one pitch at a time, they will beat you.”

Earlier this year, the Southern Conference also awarded the following individual players with honors: Jancarlos Cintron, Defensive Player of the Year; Anthony Delaney, Pitcher of the Year; and Nick Vespi, Fireman of the Year.

The Southern Conference consists of: Eastern Florida State College, Miami Dade College, Broward College, PBSC and Indian River State College. For more on PBSC baseball, click HERE.
