Visiting Notre Dame professor to discuss national debt April 16
As federal debt rises, so do concerns about America’s future. Dr. Michael Pries, associate professor of economics at Notre Dame, will talk about these issues and more as the featured speaker at the Notre Dame Club of the Palm Beaches 17th annual lecture event, “Our Growing National Debt and What it Means for our Economic Future,” at 7:30 p.m. April 16 in Meldon Lecture Hall at Palm Beach State College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus.
Pries joined the Department of Economics in 2007. His primary field of research is macroeconomics, with a focus on labor markets. His current research focuses on amplification and persistence of shocks to the labor markets, and on cross-country differences in labor market performance.
He teaches macroeconomics at both graduate and undergraduate levels and in the past has taught a course in financial markets. He has published in the “Journal of Political Economy,” the “Review of Economic Studies,” the “European Economic Review,” the “Review of Economic Dynamics” and the “Journal of Dynamics and Control.”
The talk is part of an outreach program of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. Annually, more than 100 Notre Dame faculty members give talks throughout the country on a wide variety of subjects. The program, called the Hesburgh Lecture Series, is named for the late Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C. who was Notre Dame’s president for 35 years.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Professor Tom Magill at 561-842-3019 or magillt@palmbeachstate.edu.
