Math Drives Careers March 30-April 2
Palm Beach State College will present more than 50 workshops, classroom exercises, lectures, competitions, games and more to celebrate Math Awareness Week March 30-April 2. The events, which will take place on the Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens and Lake Worth campuses, are free and open to the public. The theme for this year is “Math Drives Careers.”
The College’s Math Awareness Week coincides with Math Awareness Month, which is sponsored annually in April by The American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
Events include:
- Movie Day March 30 in HT 103 at the Boca Raton campus. Movies are “Money Ball from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., “Fermat’s Room” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., “Good Will Hunting” from 12:45 to 3 p.m. and “A Beautiful Mind” from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m.
- Exercise titled “Math Class Goes to Hollywood,” from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. March 31 by Professor and Author John Hornsby in CE 119 on the Lake Worth campus.
- Presentation titled “My Time with Einstein” by Dr. Stanley Cohen, author and executive vice dean of the Health Professions Division at Nova Southeastern University, from 4 to 5 p.m. April 1 at the Palm Beach Gardens campus BB 111 Meldon Lecture Hall.
