Miami artist to perform live painting for “Transitions” exhibit at PBSC
Reinier Gamboa, a Cuban born artist who lives in Miami, will perform a live painting before the opening reception for his “Transitions” exhibit at Art Gallery at the Eissey Campus at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens.
The live painting performance will be from noon to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the BB building lobby followed by the opening reception in the art gallery from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“Transitions,” which runs Oct. 28 through Nov. 26, features some of the paintings from Gamboa’s book of the same name that was published earlier this year. The book has over 70 works of art.
“I’m interested in using painting and drawing primarily as tools for self-awareness through visual exploration,’’ he said. “The goal is to achieve balance through conscious application of knowledge and subconscious, automatic tendencies developed through conditioning and habit.”
Gamboa moved with his family to Miami from Camagüey in 1995. He says that his first artistic influence was his father, Rafael, whom he imitated during his first years of painting. He attended high school at Miami’s New World School of the Arts and received a full scholarship to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
