Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Charles K. “Chuck” Cross, Jr. to the Palm Beach State College District Board of Trustees.

Cross, 56, of Boca Raton, is the executive vice president of commercial banking for Seacoast National Bank. He serves as treasurer of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County and previously chaired the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.

He assumes the Palm Beach State board seat formerly held by David H. Talley, whose term has expired. Cross’ term runs through May 31, 2017. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

The new trustee said he is looking forward to serving the College and the community in this role. “I am a big believer in education, especially after helping, with my wife, to guide our children through their educational choices,” he said. “Educational preparation is essential to building a strong community and a strong America.”

Dr. Dennis P. Gallon, president of Palm Beach State, said that Cross’ business expertise will be a keen asset to the board. “His firsthand knowledge of local economic and workforce needs will serve this institution well in our efforts to support the needs of this community.  We are delighted to welcome Chuck Cross and look forward to working with him,” Gallon added.

Before joining Seacoast, Cross held various positions with Bank of Florida, including serving as its in-organization CEO in Palm Beach County. In his banking career of more than 30 years, he also has worked with J.P. Morgan Trust, Wachovia Bank, NationsBank and Barnett Bank.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He and his wife Laura have three children and one grandchild.
