Chance to win big prizes at Palm Beach State’s annual golf tournament May 9
The Palm Beach College Foundation calls all who love the game of golf to come out and play and help drive the STEAM initiative at the annual Golf Classic at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday, May 9.
The tournament, the Foundation’s premier fundraising event, supports programs to help meet the growing need for local, skilled professionals in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Several corporate sponsors have been supporting the tourney for multiple years and have expanded their contribution beyond the event. “We support the tournament at a higher level but we also want to continue our scholarship fund to provide an opportunity to someone who’s probably very bright and driven for a chance to succeed in life,” said Rex Kirby, president of Suffolk Construction.
The Classic will take place on the club’s Sunset Course and will be a best-ball format, featuring contests during tournament play, including hole-in-one competitions sponsored by Braman Motor Cars. Prizes also will be awarded for the longest drive, straightest drive and closest to the pin. Sponsorship opportunities, including a golf foursome, begin at $2,000; individual golfers can play in the tournament for $375.
The Sunset Course, designed by golf legends Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills, is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course, part of an award-winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.
The tournament’s shotgun start is at 1 p.m. and the awards reception begins at 6 p.m. or immediately after play. A “copter drop” contest will begin the on-course celebration. A raffle also will be held as part of the fundraising efforts. Prizes for the raffle include: 70” Vizio LED TV with 3D glasses, a Dell Latitude 7420 laptop, and 4 one-day Disney World Park Hopper passes. Tickets for the raffle are $20 each or seven for $100. The raffle is open to the community, and participants need not be present to win.
The presenting sponsor of the Golf Classic is The Bobby Resciniti Healing Hearts Foundation; major sponsors include Dell Computers, Palm Beach Broadcasting, Balfour Beatty Construction, Honda Classic Golf Exchange Radio, Lotspeich Company of Florida, McDonald’s North County, PepsiCo, Pirtle Construction, Suffolk Construction and Trane Commercial Systems.
Proceeds from the Golf Classic will benefit the Foundation’s STEAM initiative. Through the initiative, the Foundation seeks to fund 1,000 new student scholarships, build 100 new business partnerships within these industries, develop 50 academic program enhancements, provide 50 new internship opportunities and open doors for women and minorities in the STEAM professions.
