In Memoriam – Dr. Richard E. Yinger

Retired Palm Beach State College sociology professor Dr. Richard E. Yinger passed away Jan. 9 at the age of 73.
A widely respected scholar with a national reputation, Dr. Yinger joined the faculty of Palm Beach Junior College in Lake Worth in 1974 and retired in 2006. Throughout his career, he was honored with several teaching awards, including Teacher of the Year from the PBJC Student Government Association in 1980 and FACC’s Little Red Schoolhouse for Florida Teacher of the Year in 1985. In 1989, he received the National Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas. Rich served for three years as the College’s Honors coordinator, eight years as Social Science department chair and a year as the associate dean for social science. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Florida State University.
Contributions may be made in his memory to the Palm Beach State College Foundation General Scholarship Fund or to the Church Memorial Fund of the Son Life Lutheran Church of Boynton Beach.
