Two Phi Beta Lambda students at Palm Beach State College, who had already won state awards earlier this year, have now succeeded at the national level.
Patreace Scharschmidt and Joshua Deese won first place and sixth place, respectively, in the Entrepreneurship Concepts contest, which involved a 60-minute objective test on various business competencies administered during the recent Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Baltimore June 23-26. An endowed scholarship has been established to honor the memory and wishes of Palm Beach State College alumna Sharene Smith who lost her battle with cancer April 23, four months after achieving her lifelong dream of a bachelor’s degree.
Family, co-workers and friends of the 65-year-old Boca Raton woman pooled their money to donate $25,000 to the PBSC Foundation for the Sharene Savage Smith Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Older Students. Erika Rolle, an Honors College student, has earned a spot in the Phi Beta Lambda impromptu speaking competition that will be held in Anaheim, California during the group’s National Leadership Conference for future business leaders June 24-27.
Rolle is advancing to the national competition after winning second place in March in the PBL state competition in Orlando. Phi Beta Lambda is the collegiate division of Future Business Leaders of America.
